Hopin Backstage FAQs

Check out the Hopin Backstage Tutorial to find out more about how it works.

Q: What is the Hopin Backstage?

A: The Hopin Backstage is a private video and chat area that allows Speakers and Organizers to rehearse before going live in front of attendees.

Q: How do I access the Backstage?

A: You can access it through the Overview page or the Stage tab of your event dashboard. Here’s a detailed guide on that.

Q: What do my speakers need to do to broadcast from the backstage into the stage?

A: Once your speakers get access to the backstage, they'll need to click the Share Audio and Video button. Their names will pop up on the organiser’s Moderation panel displayed at the bottom left of the screen for approval. Once approved, the speaker will be on screen. When it’s time to go live, only the organiser can click the Broadcast button to go live from the backstage to stage.

Q: Do I have to broadcast the backstage area or can I just go straight to the stage when my event starts?

A: As an organizer, you have to broadcast. Nothing happens on the stage until you start broadcasting. You basically go live on stage the moment you start broadcasting.

Q: Who can moderate the backstage?

A: Only the organizers have access to moderate the backstage.

Q: Do I have to be on screen as a moderator or can I turn off my mic and camera and still control things backstage?

A: You do not have to go up on screen in order to control the backstage. You can just watch the backstage and still control it.

Q: How many people can be at the backstage at a time?

A: You can have up to 10 people with audio and video (not including screenshares), and up to 500 people without audio and video.

Q: Is there a screen sharing option on the backstage?

A: Yes, you can share your screen on the backstage. Screen sharing option is limited to one person at a time and will be greyed out for the other speakers/presenters until the person stops sharing their screen. If you have 4 speakers for a session, and one of them decides to share their screen, the Screenshare will be counted as the 5th person.

Q: Can my speakers access the backstage before the main event? I would like to do some practice before the event begins.

A: Absolutely! The backstage is always accessible before the event begins. That means whoever has the backstage link can get into the backstage before the event begins, but they are not able to come on screen or broadcast to the stage without the organizer’s approval.

Q: Do I need the backstage to present in a session?

A: No, you do not. You only need the Backstage to broadcast to the main stage. To present in a session, click the sessions tab of the event and click the share audio and video button.

Q: Can I use the RTMP option and stream from the backstage at the same time?

A: Once you switch from Backstage to RTMP, the RTMP stream will cut off the Backstage stream and override the Backstage.
