The Hopin Backstage is a private video chat that allows Speakers and Organizers rehearse before going live in front of attendees.
Accessing the Backstage
The Stage segment in Hopin comes with a dedicated Backstage where broadcasting Speakers to the Stage happens.
Organizers can find the Backstage details on the Stage/s tab of the event dashboard. When going to your Event Dashboard > Venue > Stage/s there are two ways you can access your backstage. When viewing your different stages, you can click Backstage on the stage of your choice to be taken directly to the Backstage you have setup.
Alternatively, you can click Edit where you can select which Backstage you would like to use and then click View Streamyard backstage or View Hopin backstage (depending on which one you choose to use). You can also click Copy link to copy the backstage link so that you can then paste it into a different browser, or share it with other Organizers or Speakers.
Preparing for your Stage presentation from the Backstage
Once on the Backstage, you will see the Welcome screen.
Click on the Share Audio and Video button at the center of the Backstage to choose your webcam and microphone.
With Audio and video checked, click the Broadcast button to start displaying the Backstage video on the Stage.
The live indicator on the top left corner of the screen will tell you that your Backstage is Live and the attendees are now watching you on the Stage.
Clicking on the Stop Broadcasting button will stop the stream for the attendees. Click that when your Stage segment is over or click Leave to leave the Backstage any time.
What is the reset button on the backstage?
When streaming into the stage and you face any issues, you can reset the stage (by using the yellow reset button at the top right) to get things going again.
Please have in mind while streaming via RTMP that using the reset button automatically generates a new RTMP key for the stage. You can then input the new key into your streaming source.
Also, using the reset button means the recording for the stage will be split into two parts: stream before the reset and after the reset.
Sharing the Backstage link to the Speakers
Backstage presentations are more fun with multiple Speakers around.
Simply share the Backstage link to your Speakers. Once the Speaker signs in to their account and clicks on the Ask to Share Audio and Video button, the Organizer will receive a request to speak on the Moderation panel at the bottom of the screen.
Click on the Profile photo of the Speaker and they will come live together with you.
Only one person can share his screen per time. With one person using the screen share option, the screen share icon will be greyed out for the other presenters/speakers.
If you have 4 speakers for a session, and one of them decides to share their screen, the Screenshare will be counted as the 5th person.
Coordinating Speakers
The Backstage comes with a dedicated Backstage chat where Organizers can communicate and coordinate Speakers, discuss feedback or share ideas.
Send any directions, ask feedback and coordinate the schedule for the Speakers on the chat that is visible only to the Speakers with the Backstage link.
You're able to mute speakers' audio for yourself and for everyone, but note that only speakers will be able to unmute themselves.
Privacy alert: Please share the Backstage link wisely to prevent trolls or irrelevant people from accessing the Backstage of your event.
