The Hopin Pre-Event Check is a tool to test the local setup of a device so that potential incompatibilities can be identified before an event, or diagnosed more easily during an event. This tool will test:

  • Browser compatibility
  • Speakers, microphone and camera
  • Connectivity (VPN, firewall, anti-virus)
  • Stream quality

Help is available throughout the user journey, and results can be copied for easy sharing with Customer Support. This tool is available at the following URL as a dedicated page and is also available within an event section.

Note: To make sure the Pre-Event Check tool works as expected you need to allow permission for Camera and Microphone in the browser you are testing with. Failing to do so may cause some of the tests to malfunction or hang.

Pre-Event Check outside an event

You can go to our Pre-Event Check at https://pre-event-check.hopin.com/ to take the test. Feel free to share with Attendees, Speakers, Organizers, etc.

The browser test will check your browser compatibility and provide info on Browser name and version, The OS of your computer/device, and if the browser is able to share audio and video as well as perform screen shares. It will look like below.

Click Next: Speakers to proceed.

Note: You can always go back to a previous step by clicking the back arrow at the top left (or the Back button at the bottom left) as well as stop the test by clicking on the X at the top right.

Next you'll be able to test your speakers by selecting them from the dropdown menu. Depending on how many speakers you have on your device make sure to select the one you'd like to hear audio from. Then click on Test your Speakers to complete the test. If successful you should hear some audio, if not check your speakers or computer volume, speaker connection and power or simply choose another speaker from the dropdown menu and try again.

Note: You may need to grant camera and microphone permissions to the browser to be able to select multiple speakers.

When done, click Next: Mic and camera to continue testing.

Time to test your microphone and camera. First select your Microphone and Camera from the two drop down menus, then click Record and playback audio to hear the audio playback.

Note: You may need to grant camera and microphone permissions to the browser to be able to select your camera/s and microphone/s. Also note you need to speak or make some noise in order for the test to be able to record and playback audio. Finally, if the camera is working fine you should be able to see yourself on screen.

When done, click Next: Connectivity to continue testing.

The connectivity test will run automatically to check if there is anything preventing your connection from working properly with Hopin such as: VPNs, Firewalls, or anti-virus software. If all good you should see the You have full access message displayed. Otherwise disable your VPN, firewall or anti-virus temporarily and try again. If using a corporate device or network you may need the help of your IT department to allow access to Hopin.

When done, click Next: Stream quality to continue testing.

The next test will start automatically, it should take about 30 seconds and it may activate your camera for the purpose of testing. While the test is in progress your screen will look like below.

This is the final step, if all went well you should see similar results as shown below. Even if things didn't go quite to plan and some of the tests failed here you can click on the Copy results button and share the details with the Hopin Support Team which can first gather useful information about your local setup and second advise on what's next to solve your issues. At this stage you can click on any of the previous tests to see the results as well as Restart test if needed.

Note: Results are copied to your device clipboard, you can then paste them in a chat, text document, or email and share with the Hopin Support Team.

If the tests don't complete or present negative results most likely you may experience issues during your event so you can click 'Restart test' to try again. If problems persist we recommend following one or more troubleshooting guides on our Knowledge Base here.
